Characterization of MIMO Antennas with Multiplexing Efficiency
A simple and intuitive metric of multiplexing e ciency is proposed for evaluating the performance of MIMO antennas in the spatial multiplexing mode of operation. The metric is particularly useful for antenna engineers whose goal is to achieve the optimum antenna system design. Experimental results involving prototype mobile terminals highlight the e ectiveness of our proposal.
متن کاملOrthogonal space division multiplexing through joint use of multi-user MIMO smart antennas
In this paper, we address the problem of enhancing the performance (including the system capacity and average user bit error probability) of a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system for communication from one base station to many mobile stations in multipath Rayleigh fading channels. This problem arises in multi-user space division multiplexing (SDM) systems where multiple inde...
متن کاملOn the Duality between MIMO Systems with Distributed Antennas and MIMO Systems with Colocated Antennas
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are known to offer huge advantages over single-antenna systems, both with regard to capacity and error performance. Usually, quite restrictive assumptions are made in the literature on MIMO systems concerning the spacing of the individual antenna elements. On the one hand, it is typically assumed that the antenna elements at transmitter and receiver...
متن کاملDiversity-Multiplexing Tradeoff in MIMO Systems
It is well known that there exists a tradeoff between the diversity gain and the multiplexing gain achievable by a particular MIMO coding scheme. In this report we first look at the optimal trade-off in the infinite signal-to-noise (SNR) regime of both Rayleigh independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) channels and a more general MIMO channel model. We then look at the tradeoff of both S...
متن کاملDiversity-Multiplexing Tradeoff for Practical MIMO Channels
In this paper, we analyze the outage performance and diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT), originally introduced by Zheng and Tse, for certain classes of multiple antenna systems. In particular, three types of practical channel models such as Rician model, rankdeficient model, and spatially correlated model are considered. The asymptotic behaviors of the outage are analyzed in the limit of hig...
